MISS CHANDRA

Chandra Chinnis began dancing at the age of 5 in Los Angeles, Ca. At the age of 9 I started training at Universal Dance Studio under the instruction of Paul and Arlene Kennedy. I studied ballet, tap and jazz but knew early on that tap was my passion. I began competing and performing in all genres and earning many regional and national awards. I knew I wanted to teach early on and at the age of 12 I was able to assist in classes and was teaching on my own at 16. I was fortunate to be a part of Lynn Dally’s first youth ensemble which allowed more performing along with extra training with many tap greats I had met along the way. I was blessed to be a part of the European tour for the Broadway show Black & Blue and worked across Southern California with Absolute promotions. Although performing was great I longed to return to my first love of teaching dance to kids. I opened my studio in Inglewood, California in 1996 and had an award winning company. I have students still dancing and performing while some are now teaching. My goal is to see kids grow not only in their skills but also their love for the art and as people. Seeing the light bulb come on when a new skill is accomplished is so fulfilling for me. I look forward to being a part of Eminence Dance Complex.
